Today I checked if students had completed yesterday’s HW and explained that they now have an opportunity to get a 100% on it by checking the answers here or on Mr. Ott’s COTW Help page. Those who did not do it, will have a second chance for partial credit tomorrow. – We took the RELA Checkpoints Posttest today.

Today we passed back graded work for students to put in their work folders. We read Scene 6 and had some brief discussion. Students then finished the QAD on the front of the packet they received last week. We did an activity looking at how to expand and improve sentences and then studets were to complete the first 5 of the Expansion Practice sentences on pg 2 of the packet.

HW: Finish the Expansion practice.

Today we started a new DOG and students did Step #1. We then did a Vocab Expansion activity with some of our Vocab words. We did part as a class, then students attempted the rest on their own. We then went over the answers together. Students then received another Vocab in Context Practice Sheet. Most got started in class. All need to finish for HW.

HW: Complete Vocab Practice, Too. Study COTW Ch1-2 Vocab – TEST on FRIDAY. – CHECKPOINTS Tomorrow! – We will begin reading COTW on Wednesday.

Today in Reading we read Scene 5 and answered the questions. We then practiced making inferences using the Skillbuilder in the study guide we handed out at the begining of our unit. Anyone who did not finish it in class was to finish for HW.

HW: Read Scene 6 ALOUD. (Everyone! – Even if you do not have a part in it.)

Today we did Step #5 of the DOG. Then we went over and discussed and corrected the Vocab Practice HW. We then had an Introduction to COTW (Call of the Wild) accompanied by a slideshow.

HW: Study COTW Ch 1-2 Vocab – Test late next week.

Today we had the Vocab Test and then began work on the QAD in the new Xmas Carol supplemental packet. We began reading some of Scene 5.

Today we did step 4 of the DOG (our easiest step). Then we broke into cooperative groups for vocab discussion and practice. Students who had time were able to start on the Vocab Practice sheet that was HW.

HW: Finish Vocab Practice sheet for COTW Ch1-2 vocab words. STUDY Vocab and be preparing for next week’s Vocab TEST!

Today we did quite a bit of vocab review. Students worked in cooperative groups to get a better understanding of the words. They also had the opportunity to make some flashcards.

Today students completed Step 3 of the DOG. We then broke into cooperative groups and Students went through ”A Brief Thematic Experience.” Students classified common classroom experiences into several of the themes which will focus our reading of The Call of the Wild. They discussed their findings with their teammates and then with the full class. Students then personalized the themes, putting the ideas into their own words on Side 2.

HW: Write an original sentence for each of #1-10 COTW Vocab words on a separate sheet.

Today we read Scene 4, twice! We discussed it and some of the symbolism in it. Students answered the Q’s for Scene 4 and began a worksheet on symbolism to complete at home.

HW: Complete Symbolism wksht and READ Scene 5 ALOUD!
