Today we took a few minutes to review our Pre-Reading and While Reading strategies.  Then students silently read “Demanding Fair treatment” pg 18-23 in Protest! and applied those strategies.  One tangible way we did this was through the use of ’sticky notes’ (at least 5) to place questions, inferences, summaries, main ideas, etc. directly on the page.  Students then answered 3 questions on paper.

  1. What was the Section 504? (Describe)
  2. What was Judy Heumann’s secret plan? ( Explain)
  3. How did the reporters help the protesters? (Make inference)

When finished, students were to turn in Question/Answer sheet and sticky notes.  Students were also to check (and change as needed) their predicted connections on the Concept/Details Chart (+/0 chart).

HW: Finish making changes to +/0 chart and use stickies to finish questions.  Turn in Q’s and stickies tomorrow.
