Today we took a look at Text Structures and how, by understanding the pattern an author uses, we can understand the material better. (”How to…” pg 16-19) We looked specifically at the Cause-Effect and Compare-Contrast stuctures. We made a chart of causes and effects that we found in the “We Want to Vote” (pg 6-11 in Protest!). We matched up at least four different effects and what caused them using a two-columned chart. (see example on pg 17 of “How to…”). We also discussed/reviewed how a Venn Diagram is a good way to illustrate compare and contrast.
